Our EF-ZF3 spot attachment for continuous lights was taken a closer look by the filmmaker Jakob Bey. The spot attachment is not only made for active image composition, but also for passive image composition in order to further enhance creative projects !
Active Image Design
Imagine you want to create an impressive portrait. By darkening the room and placing the spotlight on the right side of the camera, you can highlight the model's face. With an aperture of F8, you get a sharp background. In post-production, an analog look was created by color grading and adding grain. This simple setup enables creative portrait photography with an individually selectable light color.
Passive image design
In the passive approach, the spot attachment has control over light and shadow. In one setup, the camera is placed on a high tripod to achieve the desired composition. By selectively cropping the light with the spot attachment, more contrast and control in the image is achieved. This tried and tested method is even used in films such as "Inglourious Basterds".
Another example shows how the spotlight attachment can be used to create soft light. A simple setup by pointing the spotlight at the wall. Despite limited space, impressive results can be achieved.
For further special effects, different colour foils and stencils are included with the spot attachment, so not only can the light from the LED continuous light be precisely influenced by the spot attachment, but also that certain extra can be added, as in the picture below . By combining different LED continuous lights, even more creativity can be shown in pictures and videos with the help of bi-color or RGB lights .
For the perfect overview of the spot attachment There is also a YouTube video by Jakob Bey here. From second 00:47 an overview of the different possible uses is shown and from minute 1:26 the different features of the EF-ZF3 can be discovered.
Conclusion
The EF-ZF3 offers a wide range of possible uses, which are highly valued by photographers and videographers. The ability to shape light in a targeted manner and implement creative ideas is a great asset for any project. Videographer Jakob is not only impressed by the quality of the material, but also by the price-performance ratio. Bey says the EF-ZF3 spot attachment is a must-have for all photographers and videographers who work with light. Whether on film sets, in studio shoots or in artistic photography, the spot attachment is a game changer. Its flexibility and performance open up many new possibilities for visual results.
