In this How-To video Alexander Heinrichs shows you how he got the topic Fashion photography during his Road trips through Namibia has implemented. The Jinbei HD-610 HSS was also a mobile light source.

Why do I need a flash under the African sun??

Alexander Heinrichs answers this question convincingly: We have wonderful light in the morning light and with the setting sun. But for the daytime shootings I need one additional light source to compensate for the disadvantages of the midday sun..

For the wow effect, he uses a 24-70 lens on his Sony A7RII for his fashion shotsne wide-angle recording technology. Due to the short focal length and the landscape format, not only the model and the extravagant fashion clothes come, but also the impressive landscape in a large, cinema-like look to its advantage. So that the model and the clothes really pop out, he uses the HD-610 HSS battery flash to stand up to the strong ambient light.

With this set with the black dress, Heinrichs clearly underexposed the sky. A polarizing filter emphasizes the sky blue and white clouds. The light on the model comes from the HD-610 HSS, which is equipped with a parabolic softbox for stronger light bundling.

This fashion photo dominates less the sky, but more the foreground with the huge stones. Here Heinrichs does not place so much importance on the bright effect, but more on a soft illumination. In addition, the softbox gets a diffuser. To lighten the unfavorable shadows, he uses the HD-610 HSS from the front.

Alexander Heinrichs prefers an extremely hard image look for this shot. The polarizing filter is again responsible for the dark blue sky and the sun-like light comes from the HD-610 HSS, which he uses this time without a light shaper.

Open flash photography with fast shutter speeds

Alexander Heinrichs knows that under the African midday sun when flashing, the camera's own synchronous time is not sufficient. We have to use a technique called HSS or Super Sync„. For Canon and Nikon cameras, the HD-610 offers the high speed synchronization HSS. With his Sony A7RII and HD-610, Heinrichs works with Super Sync. We photographed here very openly, with a 2.8 and the shutter speed, depending on the shooting set, was between 1/2000 and 1/4000.0“.
